Competences
In addition to the competences for Graduates from Ain Shams University and all Engineering Programs, the Digital Manufacturing and Materials Engineering Program graduate must be able to:
- Apply foundational and advanced principles of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering sciences to solve problems in materials and manufacturing contexts.
- Understand and analyse the relationships between material structure, processing, and properties (e.g., in metals, polymers, and composites) and their impact on product design, performance, and failure.
- Model, design, and analyse components and systems using tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), CAD, and numerical simulation, with applications in machine design, prototyping, and manufacturing.
- Design, select, and test engineering materials through coursework in metallurgy, heat treatment, and material testing.
- Plan and implement various material processing and manufacturing technologies, including metal forming, machining, lean manufacturing, and digital manufacturing systems, to optimize performance and sustainability.
- Apply quality management and control principles such as Six Sigma, ISO standards, and statistical quality control in manufacturing environments.
- Understand the principles of production engineering and operations management to manage and improve manufacturing systems.
- Conduct independent and team-based projects demonstrating skills in experimentation, reporting, and critical analysis of materials and manufacturing challenges.
- Use modern tools and software in digital manufacturing and communication, including computer programming, CAD/CAM, and data visualization tools, aligned with Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Demonstrate awareness of environmental and social responsibilities, engineering ethics, sustainability, and commitment to lifelong learning in both academic and industrial settings.
